Where’s Home?

Lately, and maybe because we’ve resurrected our activity on the blog, people (in the US) have been asking “When are you coming home?”.

The word “home” really strikes a chord with me when they ask that.

Where, exactly, is HOME?

Ok, I know they mean Annapolis when they ask.  We still own a house there (still rented, thank goodness).  Many of our dear friends and a good chunk of our family is there (the rest of our family is in Massachusetts & California).   We lived there for 10 years before embarking on this adventure.  There is a lot there that would be easy to fall back into for sure (somedays I really crave that dishwasher & washing machine).

But “home”?

We’ve been aboard Demeter for more than 2 years now.  95% of our worldly possessions are aboard this floating vessel that has less than 500sf of living space for the 4 of us (best guess, for my real estate/property mangement peeps).

And a quick shout of thanks to those of your holding the other 5% of our possessions.

We sleep, eat, love, argue, cook, clean, lounge, teach, cry, laugh, & celebrate, here.  Just like you do in  your home – the traditional word for the 4 walls that you live inside.

Home for us is Demeter.  Mobile, floating, cozy, sometimes messy, sometimes feeling small, but always feeling like home.

So for those of you wondering “when are we coming home”…..I totally appreciate the sentiment, but we ARE home.  We may one day live in the US again (never say never), but being together, living in our cozy Demeter, wherever she may be docked or anchored, we ARE home.

and P.S. – we still have Annapolis on the transom 🙂
